Concrete Grassroots
Spring 2020, M.I.P. Studio 1
Semester-Long Progressive Project
Assignment 4 Partner: Wajeeha Mahmood
Assignment Introduction:
The final assignment of the studio will require you to interact in a team and develop individual design proposals for site(s) that you choose in Jersey City. In these challenging times, where it might not be possible for you to visit your sites given the coronavirus lockdown, you will be required to conduct most of your site research remotely. This will include setting up meetings with your stakeholders by phone, facetime, videoconferencing and other means, and depending on data available for your sites on GIS, satellite imagery and street views. Additionally, you’ll be drawing on the research and documentation that you’ve already completed in your Constructing Sites and Systems assignments.
Your individual design proposals should reflect the realities of Jersey City, should be visionary and reflect the opportunities that are presented on your chosen site right now. In addition, you will be required to consider the process by which urban design happens and how this process and the stakeholders involved will inform your design decisions. This will again include thinking at multiple scales, identifying and engaging stakeholders involved and developing phases for realizing your project.
